How It Works

Four steps from cluttered to handled.

01

Free Consultation & Site Visit

We come to your home, look at the entry or utility space, take measurements, and talk through how you use it. Most consultations run under an hour.

02

Custom Design & Quote

We design a system built to your space’s exact dimensions and put together a detailed quote. You’ll know what you’re getting before any work begins.

03

Installation

We handle framing, cabinetry, trim, and finish details. Most mudroom and entryway projects are completed in one to two days. We leave the space clean and ready to use.

04

Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished project with you before we leave. If anything needs adjusting, we handle it before we pack up.

Every piece, made for the way you use it.

When everything has a specific place — a hook at the right height, a cubby for each person, a bench to sit on — the whole entry to your home works the way it should.

Built-In Mudroom Benches

A built-in bench is the anchor of any good mudroom. We build benches with lift-top storage, drawers, or open underneath for baskets — whatever fits your space and your household’s habits.

Cubbies & Locker-Style Storage

Individual cubbies give each family member their own designated zone — coat hook, shelf for hats and bags, space for shoes below. It stops the pile-up that happens when everyone’s stuff competes for the same hooks.

Coat Hook Panels & Upper Storage

Built-in hook panels with a finished surround look like they belong in the house. We often pair hook rows with an overhead shelf for out-of-season items, sports gear, or anything close to the door.

Overhead Cabinets & Closed Storage

For things stored near the entry but not in view — cleaning supplies, extra bags, seasonal gear, pet items — overhead cabinets keep the space clean while still being functional.

Utility & Laundry Room Organization

Utility rooms and laundry spaces get the same treatment as mudrooms — built-in shelving, cabinet storage, folding surfaces, and whatever the room needs to actually function.

Drop Zone Built-Ins

Not every home has a dedicated mudroom. A focused drop zone — bench, hooks, and a shelf or two, built into whatever wall space is available — can do the same job in a smaller footprint.

Pantries

Designed around how your family actually lives.

The best mudroom systems aren’t designed around what looks good in a magazine — they’re designed around the specific people using them. How many people come through that door every day? Kids with backpacks and sports bags? Dogs? A household that tracks in a lot of mud and leaves?

We ask those questions at the site visit because the answers change the design. A family with three kids in school needs something different than a couple who both work from home. We build for your situation, not a generic template.

Top Drawer was a dream to work with. Michael planned out our mudroom, understood my vision and did a wonderful job from start to finish. He’s timely, professional, efficient and pays attention to the smallest details. Highly recommend this company. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you serve for mudroom installations?

We serve Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, Elizabethton, Gray, Jonesborough, Piney Flats, Bluff City, and surrounding Northeast Tennessee communities. Call (423) 444-3462 to confirm we cover your area.

What if I don't have a dedicated mudroom?

Most homes in the Tri-Cities don't have a true mudroom, and that's fine. We work with whatever entry space you have — a back hallway, the wall near the garage door, a section of a laundry room. A well-designed drop zone does the same job as a full mudroom.

Can you match the trim and finish of the rest of my home?

Yes. Matching existing trim profiles, paint colors, and wood finishes is standard for us. The built-in should look like it was always part of the house.

How long does a mudroom installation take?

Most mudroom and entryway projects run one to two days on-site. Larger utility room builds or multi-wall systems may run a bit longer. We'll give you a clear timeline at the quote stage.

How much does a custom mudroom built-in cost?

A focused drop zone with a bench, hooks, and basic shelving typically starts around $2,500–$3,000. A full wall system with cubbies, overhead cabinets, and integrated trim runs $3,500–$7,000 depending on scope and materials. Call (423) 444-3462 for an accurate number.

Do you build mudroom benches with storage underneath?

Yes — storage benches are one of the most popular elements we include. Lift-top storage, pull-out drawers, or open cubby sections underneath — whichever works best for your space.
